Rive Gauche is a live project fronted by Alexandre Destrez.
Walking is their first release and features two remixes by Simbad and Giles Peterson on BBE Records.
The Simbad Remix has been leading the Traxsource charts and is already being picked up by respected DJ’s like Kerri Chandler for good reason. It has a Jazz House upbeat tempo that is hinged together with a seriously deep and freeforming baseline that will have the dance floors bouncing and you screaming ‘Reload’!!.
The Giles Peterson mix takes a different approach with a low key jazz brush intro which gives no hint about what’s to follow. The keyboard melody (which has a subtle hint of a steel pan?) and vocal samples that follow continue to lull you into a false sense of serenity before the peace is disturbed with a delicious but thoroughly anti-social ‘Amen Brother’ breakbeat. It’s truly magnificent and as suddenly as it makes an entrance it disappears but only briefly before reappearing with a beefier version of the same break accompanied by a drum and bass rhythm that by now should have you completely losing it wherever you happen to be listening.
As a first release Rive Gauche have set their stall out and on the basis of this fine piece of work there will be much excitement and anticipation for what comes next from this talented group of musicians.
